Kounoupitsa village

The village of Kounoupitsa used to be one of the most important villages in Methana and, through the port of Agios Georgios, was the village that did most trade with the neighboring island of Aegina and the port of Piraeus. In his village square with the Panagia church there are still some very nice old farmhouses. About a kilometer above the village are the churches of Agia Barbara, Agios Dimitrios, Agios Joannis and Agios Konstantinos & Elenis. The village was certainly important even in antiquity, because at the cemetery church there is a path into a side valley in which the walls of a building from the geometric era (approx. 700 BC) stand. You can get to Kounoupitsa by the hiking path on the green route from the mountains from Stavrolongos.
