The volcano Panagitsa

Even from far, you can see a significant lava flow on the west coast of the peninsula Methana , which begins above the village Megalochori. In a small valley there was the source of these lava masses. In the small valley they used to grow wine and wheat. Today you can only see the mountain goatherds Vangeli & Matina there. Worth a visit is the small, Byzantine chapel Panagitsa with its frescoes. The valley can be reached via the D (orange) trail via the Panteleimonas pass or from Megalochori.
